Jan 2026 Update / President’s Update
Dear members and friends of the Waratahs,
As we kick off the 2026 season, I wanted to provide you with a couple of updates regarding racing. Please take your time in the coming week to go over what has been covered here. Any feedback is greatly appreciated!!!
Race management duty
The Club is going to ask all riders (regardless of Club affiliation) to undertake Duty at least 1x per year in 2026 where a person has raced at least 15 times in 2025.
The Duty schedule is listed here: Race Calendar.
The Waratahs run a race every week and our optimum setup has 7 officials/duty staff. Without going into all the details – there is increasing demand on a core group of people, and they need your help.
Specific Call Outs:
Commissaire: The Club has 8 Commissaires at present – so each person is running a race every 8 weeks. It would be nice to have some more Commissaires, and if you are interested then speak to a Club Official at one of our races.
Van Drivers: We have 8 van drivers (a driver has the van for a month). We are looking for more and due to a change in circumstances, one of the current drivers is no longer able to look after the van. Thus we are super keen to speak to anyone who could look after the van.
For the month you look after the van, you will need to be at each venue 1 hour before the start of racing.
Racing Licenses – link to AusCycling database
You may be aware that the Waratahs race management system is known as Cabici. Here is the link to Cabici where you can set up a login and see your race history and grading with the Waratahs (it contains race results back to 2007).
AusCycling has generously provided real time access to its membership database so the Waratahs will now have license validation for all riders (regardless of Club) from mid February 2026. We will gradually work through the validation over several weeks to ensure we have captured current licence details, and following this we will only ask for a rider to present their license where Cabici indicates the rider’s license is not current. This may happen more regularly for riders who pay for their licence via the 12-month payment plan, versus the annual payment.
WhatsApp Group
The Club’s WhatsApp Group is going strong and we are keen to see it grow. This is now the place to get short term updates on racing/training rides status.
Here is a link to the WhatsApp Group if you would like to join: https://chat.whatsapp.com/Jo9mGcSIiQ65HCYhMY6Sto
The Club maintains 7 Groups for different reasons (eg. Commissaire Group). The only one you need is the Clubhouse. You can post messages to the Clubhouse.
Follow up questions/future topics
There is a fair bit of information here and if you have any follow-up questions please send them to waratahmasters@gmail.com or speak to one of our Committee members.
See you at one of our races soon,
Paul King
President Waratah Masters Cycling Club
